Need some quick and easy self-care ideas?  As a busy mom, I don’t have time to treat myself to a spa day or get a pedicure.  For me, it’s a luxury when I have time to put lotion on.  Self-care ideas are the last thing on my long list of things to do.

Why is self-care so important for moms?

How can we take care of our kids if we’re always on autopilot in survival mode?  We need to take care of ourselves to be the best moms we can be.

1.  Get up early

I know, it sounds like self-sabotage rather than a self-care idea, but trust me… getting up before the kids can make a world of difference.  Another tip is I use my phone alarm instead of an alarm clock because I hate the sound of my alarm clock with a passion.  My phone alarm is much more cheerful.

2.  Sip your coffee in peace!

Start your day off right.  Sit down, put your feet up, and drink the dang coffee before it gets cold!  Or tea if you prefer.  Whatever it is, choose a time and place that you can be alone.

3.  Put on some music

Whenever there is a task for me to do like laundry, dishes, or cooking dinner, I always put on some music.  It helps you zone out and changes the mood instantly.

4.  Get ready for the day

5.  Spend some time in the sun

If you work in an office, or spend all day indoors, take a walk and get some fresh air.  Even if it’s just 5 minutes.  I take a little walk during lunch and it can definitely change my mood or at least distract me for a bit.

6.  Read funny memes

I love reading funny mom memes online.  They crack me up!  Reading these short little memes is a great and super easy self-care idea because it takes no time at all, and still can lighten whatever mood is dragging you down.  These mom memes can also make you feel like you’re not alone… someone else out there is feeling the same way you do.  That can be a real comfort.

7.  Declutter one area in your life

Pick a small area to declutter.  This could be your purse, or your junk drawer in the kitchen, or your entire closet.  It depends on how much time you have, but I’d start small.  Get rid of stuff you don’t need or want.  I always feel like a small weight was lifted from my shoulders.  Try this easy self-care idea for yourself.

8.  Do some reading

When I say this, I mean small increments.  Moms can’t actually sit down and read more than 10 minutes during the day without an interruption.  I read a little in bed before I go to sleep.  It helps me forget about all the daily duties and just zone out.  If you’re a working mom, you can read during your lunch break.

9.  Take a shower

I say shower and not a bath because I don’t like baths and I don’t have time for that.  I love hot showers!  When I’ve had a long day at work, I jump right in the shower when I get home.  Even though I still need to take someone to practice, or start dinner, I get in the shower for 10 minutes.  I come out refreshed and ready for the last stretch of the day.

10.   Wine

Just a nice glass (or two) of wine after the kids go to bed so you can recuperate and do it all over again tomorrow.  Another one of your favorite beverages will suffice.  Just treat yourself.
